Fundamentals
The growing demand for the publication of supporting data derived from the research process responds to the postulates of the so-called Open Science current, which promotes the shared use of data derived from research. In this regard, a document published by the Spanish Society of Scientific Documentation states:
'Data sharing consists of sharing with the rest of the scientific community the unprocessed material generated during the research that is useful to extract and validate results (Torres-Salinas, 2010). Currently, data sharing falls within the Open Access philosophy (OA), understanding data sharing as a practice that favors making science more open and accessible (European Commission, 2016). From this OA perspective, data sharing promotes that unprocessed material can have a 'second life' and can be used beyond their original purpose. These uses can range from reusing data to produce new studies and to serving as verifiers of research results.'[i]
In Argentina, Act 26,899 on creating institutional repositories of Open Access and its regulations contain the fundamentals for data sharing. Based on the provisions of this regulation, CONICET established a resolution that states that journals that make up the Basic Nucleus of Argentina Scientific Journals shall require supporting data from research and its warehouse under Act 26,899, Open Access Institutional Digital Repositories.
How can you submit supporting data for articles presented to Hematología?
To meet the requirements, the author should have a research data repository. If at least one of the article authors submitted for publication to the journal belongs to an institution with a certified repository in the terms defined by Act 26, they can deposit the research data in it and obtain the corresponding link. Then, include it in the body of the article with the corresponding bibliographic reference.
SciELo Data
If the author does not have access to a repository within the framework of the mentioned regulation, Hematología invites the author to use the SciELo Data Open Access repository. It is a free service for those authors who deposited their research and submitted it for consideration of a scientific journal that either has not been evaluated or that has already been evaluated but is in process of publication. In both cases, it is called a preprint version. For this purpose, SciELo has the SciELo preprints repository, which accepts articles in the area of Health Sciences and which service is free (see Preprints). Once the data is in the warehouse, SciELo Data will provide the corresponding hosting link, which the author should then insert in the body of the article with the corresponding bibliographic reference.
