Abstract
Direct oral anticoagulants (DOACS) are a group of drugs with selective inhibitory activity on thrombin or on activated factor X. As advantages they offer: its rapid onset of action, no need for continuous monitoring, its fixed dose and its predictable effect.
However, there is a high risk of bleeding if they are not properly discontinued before performing any invasive procedure. We present the case of a 57-yearold female patient with a diagnosis of paroxysmal AF, anticoagulated with rivaroxaban 20 mg per day to whom a diagnostic lumbar puncture was performed during anticoagulant treatment, subsequently presenting a spinal hematoma.
